YDA DANCERS PERFORM FOR ROYALTY

On Monday 27th October YDA dancers took part in a very special event at the YDA's host organisation.

Swindon Dance welcomed His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent to watch class demonstrations and short performances. Current students from the Swindon based Urban and Contemporary Programmes were joined by recent graduates who chatted with the Duke about their experience of the YDA and the journey's their dance careers had taken so far.

“The visit was a huge success,” said Marie McCluskey, Artistic Director, “it really highlighted the importance of supporting grass roots arts, and the Duke thoroughly enjoyed meeting our ex-students (pictured), who have all done so well.

"He particularly enjoyed watching the urban class, and was very impressed with the hip hop moves. He stating that he had never seen anything like it and was so impressed with their strength and skill. He was quite taken.”

His Royal Highness, who has a keen interest in The Royal Ballet, and opportunities for young people to develop in dance, spoke to a variety of young dancers, who have accessed dance through Swindon Dance’s various youth and community-outreach initiatives.
