CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE
Theo Clinkard is a choreographer, performer and designer based in Brighton.
Since graduating from the Rambert School he has worked with many of the U.K.ʼs leading choreographers and companies including Siobhan Davies, Matthew Bourne, Wayne McGregor/Random Dance, The Featherstonehaughs, Bonachela Dance Co, Michael Keegan-Dolan (Opera), Bgroup, Charles Linehan, New Art Club, Fevered Sleep, Dog Kennel Hill, Laila Diallo, Fin Walker, Mark Bruce and Volcano Theatre/National Theatre Wales.
In 2004, Theo co-founded PROBE with Antonia Grove and commissioned/produced/performed seven original duets from emerging choreographers along side performing works by Yasmeen Godder and Trisha Brown's iconic solo from 1971, 'Accumulation'. Their performance of Soledad, a collaboration with Rafael Bonachela, won them The Guglielmo Ebreo Award and Critic's Choice Award at The Biennale Danza e Italia 2006.
Theo's own dance creations include '(v) to leap or skip, especially in an emotional manner' with the filmmaker Mariko Montpetit, 'Half a dozen concealed nows (anag)' for The New Zealand School of Dance, the solo 'P I L O T' , an installation work 'Hell Bent' (Rules and Regs commission), the recent full-length work for 7 performers 'Ordinary Courage' which is currently touring England and the forthcoming commission for Chrysalis Dance in Galway; 'Bow and Arrow'.
Theo regularly teaches companies including Michael Clark, D.V.8, Scottish Dance Theatre, Skanes Dansteater, Random Dance, Phoenix, New Adventures, Sydney Dance Co and Chunky Move and in 2011, at the invite of the British Council, he taught professional dancers throughout Chile and created an improvised performance for Danzalborde Festival.
