ROSIE KAY DANCE COMPANY

Rosie Kay trained at London Contemporary Dance School, creating solo work while performing in Poland, France, the US and Germany, before forming Rosie Kay Dance Company in 2004.  Kay most recently toured her production of 5 Soldiers- The Body is the Frontline to theatres and military bases to critical acclaim and 5 star reviews. 5 Soldiers plans to tour in 2016 nationally and internationally. Kay has created award-winning works that include; Sluts of Possession (2013) in collaboration with the Pitt Rivers Museum, There is Hope (2012) exploring religion, 5 SOLDIERS – The Body Is The Frontline (2010-2015), and Double Points: K (2008) in collaboration with Emio Greco| PC.  Site-specific works include Haining Dreaming (2013), The Great Train Dance (2011) on the Severn Valley Railway, and Ballet on the Buses (2007). Kay creates installation and dance films: 5 SOLDIERS – the film, was exhibited at The Herbert Gallery Coventry, Stadtmuseum Dresden and is in the film collection of la Médiathèque du Centre National de la Danse, Paris. Feature Film credits include choreographer for Sunshine on Leith (2013).

 Awards include 1st Prize Choreography, International Solo Dance Festival Stuttgart, Award from The Queen as ‘Young Achiever of Scotland’, Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award and nominated as Best Independent Company, National Dance Awards, Critics Circle

Kay is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Artists, and an MCR of St Cross College, Oxford.

Kay was the first Leverhulme Artist in Residence to the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, University of Oxford, 2013-2014, and is currently Research Associate, with papers published in Medical Humanities and a book chapter is due to be published by Oxford University Press on ‘War and Choreography’ later this year. Kay is Associate Artist of DanceXchange, Birmingham. Kay’s new work, MK Ultra, based on conspiracy theory and pop culture received funding for the research and development stage by Arts Council England, and will tour 2016-17.
