Robert Hylton is a choreographer, performer and teacher, touring nationally and internationally since 1999 with performance, education and film work. Formerly an Associate Artist at The Place theatre, Robert is credited as being a UK hip hop theatre pioneer and his journey within using different dance styles has earned him worldwide critical acclaim as a trendsetter in the genre.
Robert’s stage work as a soloist and with his own company choreography has toured relentlessly in the UK and internationally, supported by Arts Council England and The British Council. His film credits include Jaffaman (2003), Two Sugars (2004), and Fresh (2008) his directorial debut commissioned by ACE, Channel 4 & ABC Australia.
In 2010 Robert choreographed and composed the music for Human Revolution, a pas de deux commissioned by Ballet Black, which premiered at The Linbury Theatre, The Royal Opera House.
2011 saw Robert choreograph the McDonalds ‘Decorators’ advert and, in 2012, adverts for both Florette and Footlocker. Most recently Robert choreographed the Yayoi Kusama, Spot the Difference viral for Louis Vuitton at Selfridges.
Robert’s work has taken him all around the world, teaching hip hop and contemporary fusion as well as lecturing in hip hop dance on a variety dance programmes. He has been supported, commissioned and worked alongside Arts Council England, British Council, Jack Petchey Foundation, Southbank Centre, Laban, The Place, Robin Howard Foundation, ABC Australia Council for the Arts, Channel 4, Ballet Black, Blinkink, Outsider, White Lodge, The National Gallery, The Royal Opera House, Louis Vuitton, IKEA, Florette, Footlocker, McDonald’s, East London Dance, deciBel, The Mission, Greenwich Dance, Danceworks, Ludus, Dance4, Swindon Dance, London Arts, MDI a partner of North West Arts, Northern Arts, HIPP - Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance Festival, Surrey Arts, Richmond Dance and Woking Dance Festival.
In 2012 Robert received a full scholarship to study for an MA in Performance Arts at Northampton University, a research based MA focusing on improvisation.
