JAMES WILTON

CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE
James began his choreographic career whilst a student at London Contemporary Dance School where his works Drift and Threads were toured nationally and internationally with LC3.
After graduating from LCDS James was commissioned to re-work Drift for Scottish Dance Theatre for touring throughout 2010-2014. In 2013 the work was also staged on Ballet Hagen for performance.
In 2010 James created his first professional work The Shortest Day. Following this the work was performed both nationally and internationally to numerous venues ( Please see ‘Performance’ page for detailed past-performance listings).
In 2010 The Shortest Day won the Sadler's Wells “Global Dance Contest”. The Shortest Day was performed at Sadler's Wells as part of “Sadler's Sampled” in January 2011.
In 2011 The Shortest Day won the “Audience award for best choreography” at the 16 Masdanza choreography competition in the Canary Islands. The work was also toured throughout the Canaries as part of the Masdanza extension performances.
In December 2010 James received his first grant from Arts Council England and used the grant to create Cave whilst artist in residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Berkshire. Cave was further developed as part of “Choreodrome” at The Place, and prepared for touring in 2012.

· Selected onto Arts Council East’s Escalator Dance Programme
· Selected onto South East Dance’s “Creative and Business Development Programme”
· Selected onto Dance Lines at the Royal Opera House
· Winner of a BBC performing arts fellowship award in partnership with Swindon Dance
· Awarded the Blueprint Bursary through Sadlers Wells, East London Dance and London youth Dance
In November 2011 James created a work titled “Through Shards” for EDge (the post graduate company of London Contemporary Dance School) for national and international touring in 2012.
In 2012 James created a work “ Growing Divide” for the Dancers of Oper Graz Tanz Company.
In 2013 James created a work titled " Resurgance" for Verve13 ( postgraduate company of The Northern School of Contemporary Dance).
In 2013 James choreographed ' The Rite of Spring' for Oper Graz for the 100 year celebrations of the work.
In 2013 James was commissioned to create a work for the Rugby League 2013 World Cup. The work was created on 50 dancers and was performed as part of the opening ceremony at The Millennium Staduim, and also at Wembely Stadium.
Recently James has created works for London Contemporary Dance School, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Brighton University, Roehampton University, Yorkshire Youth Dance, Brighton and Hove Youth Dance, Shoreditch Youth Dance, CAT Laban, YDA Swindon and Junior Dance Company at The Place.
James has also done large amount of education work for many well established dance education organisations, including Youth Dance England, London youth Dance, Connect Sadlers Wells, The Place learning and access, MovingEast and East London Dance.
