CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE

Helen began her training at Swindon Dance on their very own unique foundation course before moving to Leeds to complete her degree at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

In 1998 upon graduation, Helen moved back to Swindon and joined 'Dansconnect; a performance company ran through Swindon Dance. Helen worked with choreographers Scott Ambler, Jonathon Lunn, Nikky Smedley, Yael Flexor and Banxy, making work to tour schools, arts centres and theatres in the South West. In 2000 Helen joined Motionhouse to tour 'Atomic' and remained with the company for a further 6 years becoming dance captain whilst making and touring 'Fearless', 'Volatile' and 'Perfect'. Helen, also began, during this time, to direct her own work and creatively directed an all-male professional company ‘Full Force Dance Company’; working with The Point, Hampshire Dance and composer Nathaniel Reed to tour her first full length choreographic production ‘Headcase. From this time Helen has continued to work nationally, making choreographic work on various groups, universities and companies; developing a choreographic style.

In 2006, Helen moved to Norway and became a performer and rehearsal director with Panta Rei Danseteater touring across Scandinavia and India for 18 months. Returning to the UK Helen became rehearsal director for Motionhouse Dance Theatre and also artistically directed a large scale site specific at Goodrich Castle called 'Forbidden-A Tale of Love and War'. Following this Helen returned to performing working with Mobius Dance Company to tour ‘Such is Life’ throughout the UK from 2010-11.

2012 has been a big year for Helen; she was the Assistant Choreographer for the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games in the London Olympic  stadium working with thousands of volunteers to create a full length theatrical stadium show. Returning from London 2012; Helen was pleased to receive support from Arts Council England to make and tour her first independent work ‘Close Distance’; working with collaborators; composer Nathaniel Reed and lighting designer James Mackenzie.
